Editorial Design: Fugliful Fashion

Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator

"Fugliful Fashion" is a 5-page editorial piece about my personal journey of discovering my identity and style. The autobiographical story dissects the events throughout my life that influenced my fashion during my adolescence. As each phase I experienced holds a unique personality, I sought to marry the conflicting aesthetics by drawing from pieces of my identity which remained constant. The layout and graphics are inspired by Japanese fashion magazines like ViVi, Seventeen, and Popteen. Y2K teen magazines like Tiger Beat and Total Girl also share an influence, aligning with my upbringing in the mid to late 2000s and the overarching nostalgic theme.

Process & Details

Although the content of the story feels deeply personal, I wanted to explore this in a way that is lighthearted. The use of alliteration helps to set this tone. Every page has it’s own special alliteration as the heading, for which I designed special logos. I set no limit for the use of colors, fonts, and graphic styles to contribute to the colorful and energetic feel. Each page encapsulates a different era, so I aimed to capture that era using typefaces and effects true to the time period and the aesthetic I adopted.
